The Anambra State Government has inaugurated an eight-member Review Committee to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the Anambra State Transport Company, TRACAS, as part of ongoing efforts to reposition the state-owned transport service for greater efficiency, accountability, and long-term sustainability.
Inaugurating the committee on, 16 July, the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, said the exercise is aimed at evaluating TRACAS’ operational performance and identifying practical reforms to strengthen the organisation.
The Commissioner explained that the review became necessary following concerns that TRACAS’ revenue generation and overall performance have not reflected the state’s remarkable economic growth and expanding transportation demands under the Soludo administration.

He charged the committee, chaired by Chief Michael Chukwudeme, to examine operational, financial, and administrative issues affecting TRACAS, review revenue performance, and recommend practical measures to improve efficiency, transparency, service delivery, and institutional accountability.
The committee is expected to assess the company’s legal framework, corporate governance, management structure, staffing, financial records, operational outlets, vehicle fleet, passenger transport services, courier operations, and other commercial activities.
Members will also inspect TRACAS parks and operational facilities, verify relevant documents, engage management and staff, evaluate operational challenges across locations, and ensure that findings are supported by credible evidence.

Based on the outcome of the review, the committee will recommend appropriate reforms, including restructuring, Public-Private Partnership models, franchising arrangements, and other sustainable strategies to enhance TRACAS’ long-term viability and competitiveness.
Hon. Ibuzo directed the committee to submit weekly progress reports throughout the assignment to keep Governor Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, fully briefed and to facilitate timely government decisions on the implementation of recommendations.
The committee has three weeks to conclude the assignment, subject to extension where necessary. The Commissioner assured members of the Ministry’s full support and urged TRACAS management to provide unrestricted cooperation. He expressed confidence that the review would lay the foundation for a modern, efficient, and customer-focused transport system in Anambra State.
