Graduation may mark the end of academic studies, but true success depends on the knowledge, skills and mindset cultivated beyond the classroom. This was the central message at the Catalyst 2026 Summit held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka on July 17.
Organised by the University’s Student Initiatives and Empowerment Office, the summit focused on the role of financial literacy, self-esteem and psychological well-being in preparing undergraduate students for life after graduation.

Delivering the keynote address, the Director of the Centre for Counselling and Career Development, Prof. Harry Obi-Nwosu, underscored the strong relationship between financial literacy, academic excellence and mental well-being. He urged students to cultivate sound financial habits and responsible money management from an early stage.
Representing the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, Mr. Daniel Okoye shared his personal journey from working as an agent to achieving career growth, encouraging students to build capacity, remain focused and embrace continuous self-development.

The Acting Managing Director of the Anambra State Small Business Agency (ASBA), Barr. Nonso Emeka, reinforced the message of resilience, advising students to begin with available opportunities, remain consistent and pursue learning despite challenges.
Addressing the importance of emotional intelligence, Dr. Ifeoma Nnaemeka, in a presentation titled “The Mirror Within”, urged participants to understand their emotions, recognise their strengths and cultivate self-awareness as a foundation for making informed life decisions.
The Chief Executive Officer of Frizus Group, Izuchukwu Francis Ejikeme, reminded students that while academic certificates may provide access to opportunities, practical skills are essential for long-term success. He encouraged them to acquire relevant competencies that would distinguish them in an increasingly competitive world.
Speaking during the session, Uchenna emphasised that personal grooming extends beyond physical appearance, noting that confidence, character and self-presentation play significant roles in personal and professional growth.
The summit also featured an interactive panel discussion with Nwanze Emmanuel (Godpixel), Dr. Godspower Ndulaga, Igweonu Uchenna and Nzubechi Chinedum. The event was enriched with empowerment sessions, entertainment, networking opportunities and recognition activities, leaving participants inspired to embrace lifelong learning, resilience and the right mindset as essential ingredients for success beyond graduation.
