The management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, has intensified preparations for the forthcoming accreditation of key clinical departments with a strategic management meeting to assess their level of readiness.
The meeting, held on July 20, was chaired by the Chief Medical Director(CMD), Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, and provided an opportunity for the affected departments to present comprehensive reports on their preparedness for the accreditation exercise.
Dr. Umeakuewulu said the exercise reflects the hospital’s commitment to strengthening specialist medical training, promoting academic excellence and consolidating COOUTH’s position as a leading tertiary healthcare and teaching institution.
She explained that the departments scheduled for accreditation including Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Radiology, Internal Medicine and Family Medicine presented detailed reports on their manpower, facilities, equipment, training capacity and compliance with accreditation requirements.
According to the CMD, management carefully reviewed each department’s level of preparedness, identified areas requiring improvement and outlined strategic measures to ensure full compliance with the required standards before the accreditation exercise.
Dr. Umeakuewulu reaffirmed the management’s unwavering commitment to securing full accreditation for all eligible departments, describing the exercise as essential to improving healthcare delivery, postgraduate medical education, research and institutional development.
She urged Heads of Departments and members of staff to remain committed, work collaboratively and sustain the momentum towards achieving a successful accreditation outcome.
The CMD expressed confidence that COOUTH would continue to attain greater milestones in delivering quality healthcare services, advancing medical education and strengthening its reputation as a centre of excellence.
