Aspirants contesting various positions in the 2026 Students’ Union Government (SUG) election at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), on July 2 presented their manifestos to students at the College Multipurpose Hall, outlining their plans to improve student welfare and strengthen the union if elected.

Following the presentations, the Chairman of the NOCEN SUG Electoral Committee, Law Egbomuche-Okeke, Esq., Ph.D., invited representatives of the e-voting service provider to demonstrate the electronic voting system to students and other stakeholders.

The representatives explained that the platform was designed to ensure a free, fair, transparent and credible electoral process. They said eligible students would receive a secure voting link through their registered email addresses, where they would create confidential passwords to access the voting portal.

They advised students to keep their passwords confidential, noting that each voter would be allowed to cast only one vote per position and that submitted votes could not be altered, adding that election results would be displayed in real time.

Responding to concerns raised by students who could not access their registered email accounts, the service provider explained that email authentication was adopted instead of SMS because it offers greater privacy and security. Students were therefore urged to recover access to their email accounts before the election.

Addressing participants, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee announced that the SUG election had been rescheduled from its earlier date to July 9, to allow the committee resolve identified challenges and ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.

He urged all aspirants to continue issue-based campaigns in line with the committee’s guidelines, appealing to students to remain peaceful, shun the spread of misinformation and support efforts to conduct a transparent election.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the outgoing SUG President, Ebozue Chibuike Victor, who appreciated the college management, electoral committee, e-voting service provider, aspirants, students and other stakeholders for their commitment to a peaceful and credible election.

He encouraged students to participate actively in the rescheduled poll and uphold the values of fairness, unity and responsible leadership.
