The President-General of the Obosi Development Union (ODU), Barr. Chimezie Obi, has commended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for restoring the Obosi Water Scheme at Eke Obosi, describing the intervention as a major step towards improving access to safe drinking water in the community.
Speaking during the official handover of the rehabilitated water scheme to the people of Obosi on July 7, Barr. Obi expressed appreciation to the state government for reviving the once-moribund facility, which had previously supplied pipe-borne water to many households before it became non-functional due to technical faults.
He noted that the government invested substantial resources in rehabilitating the scheme and entrusted its management to the Obosi community, assuring that the facility would be properly managed, protected, and maintained to achieve its intended purpose.
Barr. Obi said access to potable water would significantly reduce the prevalence of water-borne diseases such as typhoid and diarrhoea, thereby improving the health and well-being of residents.
”I am happy today because the Anambra State Government has handed over the Obosi Water Scheme to us. The government spent millions of naira to revamp it and entrusted it to the community so that we can own, manage, and protect it. I assure the government that the objectives behind the rehabilitation of this water scheme will be fully realised,” he said.
The PG also appreciated the staff of Noribest Company for successfully repairing and restoring the water facilities and appealed to the company’s technical team to remain in the community for a while to train the local operators responsible for managing the scheme, ensuring its efficient operation and long-term sustainability.
