The former Governor of Anambra State and Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has urged voters to elect credible leaders and shun vote buying as the state goes to the polls to choose its next governor.
Mr. Obi made the call while speaking to journalists in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, after casting his vote in the Anambra Governorship election.

He emphasized that all the candidates in the election are his brothers and sisters, urging whoever emerges victorious to prioritize service to the people.
“Nigeria needs genuine service now. We must pull our people out of poverty. Our schools must work again—it’s no longer about grandstanding. We need to fix our hospitals, which is why we’re supporting nursing schools to produce the manpower required for every village to have at least one functional primary healthcare centre,” Obi said.

He warned that those who sell their votes are effectively selling their future, as doing so denies them access to good roads, quality healthcare, education, employment opportunities, and other essential services.
Similarly, at Aguluzigbo Town Hall, the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Victor Umeh, condemned the practice of vote buying, stressing that it has been critically and clearly outlawed.
Senator Umeh cautioned that those who sell their votes also sell their right to complain about bad governance.
“You cannot exchange your right to good governance for money,” he said, urging voters to assess the candidates objectively and vote for the one who best represents their interests.
