Concerned by the incessant power outage in Anambra State, an Obstetrician Gynae Oncologist, Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital Nnewi Campus, Associate Prof. Osita Umeononihu, has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to declare a state of emergency on the energy sector to assuage the sufferings of people who depend on energy to keep their businesses alive.

In a press statement in Awka on the deplorable situation, Prof. Umeononihu admitted that although the power sector and issues concerning the national grid are the exclusive preserve of the federal government, the governor should make the necessary contacts to arrest the ugly trend.

The medical expert lamented that for over three months now, the power supply to Anambra State has dropped abysmally to about not more than 10 hours of light in a month.

Describing energy as the bedrock of all business enterprises, he wondered how people who depend on steady power supply of electricity daily for their livelihood survive under such excruciating situation.

Prof. Umeononihu used the forum to felicitate with the new Chief Medical Director of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Awka, Dr.Maureen Umeakuewulu and expressed confidence that given her pedigree as a gynaecologist and Oncologist, she will move the institution to greater heights.
