Shanahan University, Onitsha, on Oct. 7, has commenced the 2026/2027 academic session with an Opening Mass at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha.

The Mass, attended by the university’s management, staff and students, was presided over by the Founder and Proprietor of the university and Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian M. Okeke.

In his homily, Okeke welcomed the students and urged them to pursue excellence in their academic work, character and personal conduct.

He encouraged them to maintain high standards in their studies and strive to become responsible and disciplined members of society.

The Archbishop said excellence should not be measured only by academic achievement but should also reflect in the students’ character, discipline, responsibility and relationships with others.

The Mass also provided an opportunity for members of the university community to meet the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Dominic Obielosi.

Okeke urged the students to approach their studies with commitment and make good use of the opportunities provided by the university.

The celebration marked the commencement of academic activities for the 2026/2027 session, with emphasis on academic excellence and character formation.
